NEWCASTLE LOCALS NOMINATED IN AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Two well known Newcastle identities have been nominated as New South Wales finalists in the Australian of the Year Awards.
In the category of NSW Local Hero, Dr Kelvin Kong made headlines as Australia’s first Indigenous surgeon and went on to become an ear, throat and nose specialist, working with Aboriginal communities to improve ear disease in children.
Also nominated in the category of NSW Senior Australian, Clown Doctor Jean Paul Bell who created the Humour Foundation and co founder and creative director of the Arts Health Institute.
And in another coup for the city Newcastle artist, Lee Howes was commissioned to make the awards trophies.
