Residents in Runaway Bay, had to abandon their homes this morning.
After a man hit a gas pipeline while drilling a hole in his yard.
He called firefighters, who arrived quickly to the scene.
“Walked outside and all I could hear was this massive, tsss! Going off for ages. Then they just told us to evacuate out onto the street.”
“The firies being present, putting water on the gas that’s emitting. And because of the strong wind today, the threat level to everyone is quite low at the moment.”
It took more than two hours for the area to be made safe.
Police say the man who breached the pipeline is uninjured.
