CENTRAL NORTH POWER THROUGH COUNTRY CHAMPS

Central North has shown itself to be a future force in women’s rugby, after the under 17s won three of five matches at the weekend’s Country Championships.

The strong showing came despite a difficult preparation.

“Our region’s from three separate schools, okay, so just trying to get them all together for training runs has been a bit of a challenge. However, the effort that they’ve made over the last eight weeks has been really good and it’s showing today.”

Also on offer were places in the New South Wales Country side.

The north west had three players selected, with Tiarna Molloy, Rhiannon Byers and Isabelle Hunt to push for higher honours in February.

“If they’ve got that determination when they run. Athleticism is important, some of the girls are showing that out there. Their knowledge might not be so great, but that’s something we can definitely work on at training.”
