BAUMANN CONTINUES TO DENY CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann continues to deny allegations he ‘hid’ developer donations, today re-affirming his position to state parliament.
He denied any wrongdoing during his brief members’ statement, which may be his last address with only a few sitting days left.
Mr Baumann moved to the cross bench in September after admitting to not disclosing almost $80,000 of donations from two developers during his 2007 election campaign.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption is investigation whether those payments were hidden in order to conceal benefits he exchanged with the donors.
Mr Baumann insists his failure to not disclose the donations was a mistake.
“In my case, I did not receive one cent from banned donors,” he told the chamber.
“I’ve made a mistake with one declaration that did not affect the result of the 2007 or 2011 election.”
The ICAC probes have resulted in eight Liberal MPs stepping down, as well as the resignations of Hunter MPs Tim Owen and Andrew Cornwell.
It’s due to report its findings in January.
