MAN TO FACE COURT ON ILLEGAL FISHING CHARGES
A 47-year-old Central Coast man is expected to be issued with a court attendance notice, after he was allegedly caught with six times the legal limit of lobsters.
The Department of Primary Industries says fisheries officers inspected the man’s catch at Terrigal during a routine patrol, when they found the man in possession of 12 Eastern Rock lobsters.
Acting Director of Fisheries Compliance, Patrick Tully, says the offence can carry hefty fines.
“Such charges carry a maximum penalty of $44,000 or 12 months imprisonment (or both) for a first offence and double these penalties for any second or subsequent offence,” he said.
