Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate, has lost his bid,
to introduce a pay freeze for councillors.
Councillors will instead get a 2-point-3 per cent salary increase, as ordered by an independent tribunal.
They argue it’s simply a C-P-I increase, with councillor Paul Taylor suggesting even councillors are doing it tough.
“As far as the Council’s concerned, we made a decision as a team and we’ll stick with that.”
Mayor Tate currently earns $217,000 a year, while councillors earn $130,000
The Mayor says, he’ll donate his pay rise to charity.
