OVERHEAD WIRES REMOVED FROM RAIL CORRIDOR
Work on Newcastle’s rail corridor continued overnight with 700 metres of overhead wires removed between Wickam Station and Stewart Avenue.
Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court prevented the removal of the track, without an act of parliament.
RailCorp is expected to lodge an appeal in the new year, but if it loses, the wiring will have to be replaced.
In the meantime, Transport for New South Wales says work will continue around the clock, until Hamilton Station re-opens on January 5.
