LOCALS URGED TO TAKE EXTRA CARE IN THE BELLINGER RIVER

Residents using the Bellinger River are being urged to take extra care to limit the spread of a virus fatal to the Bellinger River Turtles.

It’s been discovered the virus is not harmful to humans, but those using the river for swimming or boating are reminded to clean all equipment with soapy water after use and before entering the water.

The Department of Primary Industries is working with Bellingen Council to ensure locals remain informed about ways to reduce spreading the virus.

Any sick or deceased turtles should be reported to the Office of Environment and Heritage hotline.
