Despite sweltering temperatures, swimmers at Newcastle Beach stayed close to shore today, as lifeguards remain on the lookout for a number of sharks spotted in the area.
It’s the eighth straight day the city’s beaches have been closed since two sharks, including a five metre great white, were spotted close-by.
Further south, only a small number of swimmers at Blacksmiths and Caves Beach could be tempted into the waves.
Newcastle’s Beaches will remain closed until 48 hours passes without a shark sighting.
