WEATHER: CYCLONE LAM IS GROWING

The monsoon trough that sits over northern Australia has produced a cyclone.
Cyclone Lam pronounced Larm is growing quickly in the Gulf and likely to become a category 4 storm by tomorrow. Another low is now deepening in the Coral Sea and may also become a cyclone.
It is moving east at the moment but expected to turn to the south tomorrow and it may move towards SE QLD bringing with it flooding rain that will spill across the border into NE NSW by Friday.
There are a couple of possibilities. The first is that the intense system will unleash all its energy on SE QLD before dying.
The second scenario is that the system will move into the Tasman feeding off the warm ocean currents and re-strengthen into a powerful east coast low generating a huge swell for the weekend.
On both scenarios it is now advised that residences of SE QLD and NE NSW starting thinking about preparations for potential flooding, strong winds and high seas that may develop at the end of the week.
