STAGE ONE OF AIRPORT EXPANSION COMPLETE
Stage one of Newcastle Airport’s terminal expansion is complete, with the new facilities allowing for future international flights and additional domestic services.
The project was opened by Planning Minister Pru Goward today and includes a new arrivals hall, with an area for permanent customs, immigration and quarantine facilities.
“The $14.5-million project, which includes $11.1-million from the Baird Government, will mean increased capacity for additional domestic services.
“The expansion will also open up the possibility for future routes to Adelaide, Perth, and Cairns as well as international services to New Zealand and South East Asia as demand continues to grow,” she said.
Stage two of the project, which involves a full refurbishment of the existing terminal, will begin in the coming weeks.
