Cowper MP and Assistant Employment Minister Luke Hartsuyker has blamed the former federal government for failing to fix problems within the welfare-to-work system.
His department is investigating claims of widespread fraud involving job agencies contracted by the government, which were aired on the ABC earlier this week.
“The story largely relates to events that occurred on the previous government’s watch when we came into government, we inherited a system that was in urgent need of reform, it was mired in red tape, not meeting the needs of job seekers or employers,” Mr Hartsuyker said
He says the government has since made changes to the system, which will take effect mid-year.
