RECOGNITION FOR SES VOLUNTEERS IN FLOOD RESCUE
Three Coffs Harbour SES volunteers and a police officer have
received group bravery citations for the swift water rescue of a woman trapped in her car during flooding at Bonville in 2009.
David O’Brien, Ian Gill, Athol Dorrington and Senior Constable Brad Jackson saved the woman but say they weren’t the only ones risking their lives for others that day.
“I think from all of us I think it’s very humbling to be singled out when you consider on the day, everybody in the unit did their part,”said David O’Brien.
Also recognised, UN paramedic Joel Donkin from Rainbow Flat.
He received a bravery commendation for helping the victims of a Taliban attack on a guest house in Afghanistan in 2009.
