Four people, who tried to rescue two people whose car was swept into floodwaters in Maitland, have been accounted for.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter as well as emergency services with flood boats are on scene searching an area of Cessnock Road near Gilleston Heights.
A woman and her passenger are still unaccounted for after their was swept into the water.
