MR TRAVEL PASSES AWAY AGED 91

The man known to a legion of Hunter television viewers as Mr Travel – Roy Earl – has died aged 91.

Roy was well known for his years spent as the face of travel programmes on NBN in the 1970s and early 80s.

The long-time Salamander Bay resident passed away on Wednesday in John Hunter Hospital.

SO SADDENED TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OF ”MR, TRAVEL”…ROY EARL…ROY AND I HAD BECOME GOOD MATES WHEN I WAS WORKING FOR ”THE NEWCASTLE STAR NEWSPAPER AND ROY WAS RUNNING ”JAYES TRAVEL”…ONLY RECENTLY RUN INTO ROY AT ‘WESTS NELSON BAY AT A CONCERT AND REMARKED TO MY FAMILY HOW WELL ROY WAS LOOKING AND THINKING HE WOULD BE MAYBE IN HIS LATE 70’S ..HAD NO IDEA ROY WAS 90..HE WAS A GREAT PERSONALITY ON T.V. AS HE PRESENTED HIS WEEKLY TRAVEL SHOW..ON NBN 3..AND ON MEETING UP WITH ROY THAT DAY RECENTLY I THANKED HIM FOR SPONSORING A TALENT QUEST IN 1976 AT SOUTH LEAGUES..WHICH I WON AND HOW IT WAS THE FIRST TALENT QUEST THAT I HAD EVER ENTERED I WAS SO APPRECIATIVE OF ROY FOR BEING THE SPONSOR AND HELPING TO LAUNCH MY ENTERTAINMENT CAREER..R.I.P. OLD MATE ROY AND GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER IN GOD’S GARDEN OF LOVE”
