TOM TATE HOLDING OUT HOPE FOR NEW CASINO
The Gold Coast mayor is refusing to accept the state government has turned its back on a cruise ship terminal.
Tom Tate says, he’d support axing plans for a casino, IF it meant salvaging part of a multi-billion dollar project.
It’s estimated each cruise ship would inject $500,000 into the local economy.
“When you multiply that by 60 or 70 or even 100 cruise ships- and they all want to come to the Gold Coast- you can see that’s a huge revenue source we’re missing out on.”
The Palaszczuk Government rejected a $7-billion project- including a casino and resort- on Wave Break Island.
The Mayor’s now pushing for a compromise – even proposing a terminal on the ocean side of the Spit, so no dredging is needed.
