CALL FOR DEFIBRILLATORS AT SPORTING GROUNDS
Prompted by community concern, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson is investigating how defibrillators could be accessed at all sporting grounds in the city.
Currently those who need one, such as a player suffering a cardiac arrest, would have to wait for an ambulance, which could mean the difference between life and death.
Paramedic Ray Tait says the quicker someone is treated, the better.
“It would make a huge difference in terms of survival rate for the individual um the thing is that it’s a known fact early defibrillation now can draw the line between success and failure in a cardiac arrest.”
Government funding is being looked into, with Automatic External Defibrillators worth about $3,000 each.
