MINING COMPANIES SET TO FACE BIGGER FINES
Mining companies caught doing the wrong thing will be hit with bigger fines under new measures announced by the state government.
Penalties are set to rise 400 per cent, with maximum on-the-spot-fines for minor offences of $15,000.
The number of compliance officers around the state will also double.
Last year, the government increased the maximum fine for major planning control breaches from $1.1-million to $5-million.
The new measures will apply to any hazardous industry, including coal mining.
