Newcastle councillors have voted against giving themselves a pay rise and will instead contribute the money towards future planning for Wallsend.
The three per cent increase budgeted for next financial year will now go towards developing a Wallsend Town Centre Masterplan.
Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery, has welcomed the decision.
“It’s great to see some positive announcements for the westerns suburbs of Newcastle,” she said.
“I look forward to seeing and participating in the creation of the Wallsend Town Centre Master Plan.”
