WESTERN FORESHORE ROAD TO CLOSE NEXT YEAR
A request by Tamworth Council and State Water to close Western Foreshore Road for the Chaffey Dam upgrade has raised some concerns.
Once completed, 3.5-kilometres of the road will be underwater when the dam reaches capacity.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson doesn’t support the closure and is urging council to find another solution.
But Acting Mayor Russell Webb says the alternative is a new road and bridge, which would cost about $6.5-million.
“There are only a small number of properties on that road that will be affected and the biggest effect on any of those properties would be an extra 5.8 kilometres on the trip from the Woolomin side to Nundle.”
