WOMEN IN POLICE CELEBRATED IN GOSFORD

Almost three months after it was launched in Sydney, the Women in Policing baton arrived in Gosford today, to celebrate 100 years of women in the force.

“We’ve come a long way. And I certainly have seen it in my age, when I started in a skirt and a bowling bag that I used to have to carry – and we were one of the first to be allowed to wear guns. So we’ve come a great way, and it’s good to see we’re coming up in the ranks.”

The milestone was celebrated with an event on the waterfront, with historical displays and activities for kids.

There are currently 70 women working in the Brisbane Water Command, which makes up one-third of the local command.
