KENYAN RUNNER BREAKS RECORD AT GC MARATHON
History was made on the Gold Coast today, with a 41-year-old barber running the fastest marathon on Australian soil.
Kenyan, Kenneth Mungara, claimed the Gold Coast Marathon this morning in a time of two hours, eight minutes and 42 seconds.
“WOO! the kenyans have stepped up a pace”
“I saw the time, and I thought wow, it’s going again, so I had to focus with that time.”
20 minutes later, Japan’s Risa Takenaka was the first woman across the line.
“Beautiful course. I love being able to run beside the beautiful seaside.”
Some 16,000 runners took part in the event.
