Newcastle’s $1-billion third coal loader has taken a big step towards completion.
Last night a 57-metre, 250-tonne conveyor belt made its way from Kurri Kurri to Koorangang Island.
It had to be lifted into place, and the operation saw Industrial Drive closed at Tourle Street, and Cormorant Road, for six hours from 9pm.
It’s the last major piece needed to complete the loader, which should be operational in the first half of the new year.
