BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD SET TO BEGIN IN NEW ENGLAND ZONE
Despite the winter chill, residents on the Northern Tablelands are being reminded the official bushfire danger period begins this weekend.
The Rural Fire Service is expecting a busy season, and that residents from Uralla to Tenterfield will be affected.
Due to the region’s climate and vegetation, the danger period begins on August 1, which is two months before the rest of the state.
“It’s primarily because of the frosted grass and the winds that we often get from the west. Make ideal conditions for running fires, so people will require a permit as of Saturday.”
Permits can be obtained from the RFS.
