COURT BATTLE TO SAVE KOALAS
A local landcare group vying for the protection of koalas on the Liverpool Plains have taken their fight to the New South Wales Land and Environment court.
The Upper Mooki Landcare group believes a large population of koalas are at risk of extinction at the proposed site of Shenhua’s Watermark mine, near Breeza.
The open cut coal mine will clear 847 hectares of koala habitat and it’s estimated 262 koalas live in the region.
The hearing will go for four-days.
