KOALA COURT DECISION LOOMING

Meanwhile, a Land and Environment Court decision on the proposed Shenhua open cut coal mine in the Liverpool Plains is expected next month.
Representatives from the Upper Mooki (Mook-Eye) Landcare group are battling Shenhua, concerned that more than 800 hectares of koala habitat will be destroyed if it goes ahead.
The state’s population of the unique marsupial has dropped by a third in the past two decades, while local numbers have fallen by 70 per cent since 2009.
