MILITARY HISTORY STOPS OVER IN TAMWORTH
A piece of military history made a stopover in Tamworth overnight, before heading to its final destination at Walcha, today.
The Douglas C-3 aircraft was one of the first passenger liners used by the Royal Australia Air Force in the 1930s.
This particular aircraft was gifted to Papua New Guinea, but some years ago it returned home, and will now be restored to its former glory by Walcha resident David Salter.
“Transported war veterans back from the Pacific and you know all those atrocities up there, and his father was actually on the DC3 fleet with the Royal Australian Airforce, so you know it’s going to a good home.”
