In recognition of International White Cane Day, Coffs Harbour’s Mayor has experienced what it feels like to have limited vision.
With vision impairing goggles and a white cane, the Mayor was guided through the CBD…to highlight the growing number of white cane users among the region’s aging population.
“Really all I’ve got is a little bit of sight in one eye, the left, so I lost my sense of balance also so it’s really scary, but fortunately in Coffs, we do move out of the way.” Said Coffs Harbour Mayor, Denise Knight.
Guide Dogs New South Wales says around 100 Coffs Coast residents use white canes.
