PROTESTORS SUPPORT PACIFIC ISLANDS AGAINST RISING TIDE

Protestors in Newcastle have mobilised on behalf of small islands in the Pacific, to push for a moratorium on new coal mines and a global climate agreement.
The group entered the Carrington Coal terminal this morning carrying banners of support to Smaller Island States in the Pacific, who are calling on a uniform approach to tackling global warming to prevent their islands being swallowed by the sea.
Participant, Fee Mozeley, says they want to send a message that Novocastrians are supporting their cause.
“We, too, want our Government and the Pacific Islands Forum to take action that will ensure their survival. That starts with a global agreement to keep warming below 1.5c and a global moratorium on new coal mines,” she said.
