CLARENCE AND BELLINGEN UNFIT FOR THE FUTURE

Clarence Valley and Bellingen councils are considering their next moves after the independent regulator labelled them ‘unfit’.
Bellingen Shire is confident it won’t have to merge with adjoining councils, even though its financial sustainability was found to be unsatisfactory.
“That is something I believe we can overcome in time, and we will be going back to the government with proposals in that area,” said Bellingen Mayor Mark Troy.
Clarence Valley Mayor Richie Williamson says the negative assessment was not unexpected, but he’s confident his council will remain on its own.
