NSW FARMERS ASSOCIATION URGING FARMERS TO MEET WITH LOCAL COUNCILS

The New South Wales Farmers Association is urging farmers and rural communities to engage with their councils following IPART’s ‘fit for the future’ review.

The association is encouraging its members to engage with local government before November 18, the deadline for councils to submit preferred amalgamation partners.

It says its members oppose amalgamations unless they result in substantial economic benefits or improved services for communities.

IPART found 56 per cent of councils in regional New South Wales, including the Clarence Valley, were not ‘fit for the future’ because they lacked scale and capacity.
