It’s time to batten down the hatches with a severe thunderstorm warning current for heavy rainfall for those living in the Northern Rivers,
Northern Tablelands and parts of the North West Slopes and Plains.
According to the bureau, the severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Tenterfield, Inverell, Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah, Byron Bay, Ballina, Casino and Kyogle.
Unstable weather is continuing over northern NSW and south-east Queensland, with showers and storm activity overnight and for much of the day today.
In northern NSW, Grafton recorded 27 millimetres in the 24 hours to 9am.
Meanwhile a severe storm swept over Brisbane and surrounding areas last night, leaving tennis ball-sized hail in parts of the city.
