Witnesses have described the moment a driver accidentally
reversed over a mother and baby and crashed through a cafe window in Newcastle this afternoon.
The driver aged in their late 60s or early 70s was reversing out of a carpark on Perkins Street around 12.20, when they hit a taxi then reversed at speed up a gutter and on to the footpath. A mother and her baby were trapped under the car.
One witness who worked in a shop across the street has told NBN News she heard glass breaking and screams for help.
It’s believed up to 10 people helped lift the car off the woman who witnesses say was in a very distressed state
The mother and her baby are believed to be in a serious condition.
