COUNCIL RANGER FROM MID NORTH COAST ACCUSED OF GREYHOUND COVER UP
A council ranger from a Mid North Coast council has been accused of doctoring documents, to cover up the off-the-books killing of dozens of greyhounds.
Robert Watson, from Kempsey Shire Council, fronted a special commission of inquiry into the greyhound racing industry today, where he admitted he’d euthanised dogs that weren’t sick or injured, but were no longer suitable for racing.
The inquiry was told that Kempsey council’s register of euthanised dogs originally included 14 greyhounds, but that Mr Watson altered the number to show 64 greyhounds had been killed.
Counsel assisting the inquiry allege the changes were made within hours of the ranger receiving a summons to appear at the inquiry.
The Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in New South Wales is looking into animal welfare, integrity and governance issues in the sport.
