RESIDENTS INVITED TO SHARE THEIR STORIES IN CONTAMINATION INQUIRY
Port Stephens residents and workers affected by a Williamtown-based chemical spill will have a chance to share their stories, as part of an Australian senate inquiry into the matter.
An inquiry into the events surrounding the ground and surface water scandal from the RAAF base will begin this Thursday with a public hearing in Canberra.
Another public hearing will be held in Williamtown on December 22 and anyone wanting to make a submission for the probe will have until December 14 to do so.
The inquiry will delve into aspects of the contamination including the extent of the spill in the area, the response of federal, state and local governments as well as the level of consultation and coordination with the community.
News of the spill of toxic firefighting chemicals broke in early September, however scientific investigations into the spread of PFOS and PFOA are expected to continue for several months.
