BUSHFIRE AT LAKE MACQUARIE

High temperatures and strong winds have helped fuel a bushfire burning at Lake Macquarie.

The fire, burning near Rhonnda Road Teralba, is believed to have started when power lines came down in strong winds.

Wakefield Road has been closed for fire fighting vehicles only. Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews are fighting the fire and carrying out back burning operations.

The RFS says under the current conditions, the fire is likely to reach Teralba within an hour. The service has warned residents to be aware of significant smoke and possible embers, ahead of the fire front.
