FUTURE OF STOCKTON SERVICE STATION FOLLOWING FIRE

A decision on the future of a derelict service station at Stockton – destroyed by fire on Saturday night – is still some way off, according to the Department of Primary Industries.

It says no plans will be made until a police investigation is complete, and the site is vacated and cleaned up.

Member for Newcastle, Tim Crakanthorp, is calling for the matter to be resolved quickly.

“We want to see the lease annulled, we want to see the land remediated and the community consulted on the future use of the site.”

The state government says there will be extensive community consultation.

  1. Vacated? Seriously? Lease of what?? Who is doing the clean up? Remaining structure is a serious hazard to residents and anyone nearby if there is a gust of wind and needs to be attended to immediately before someone suffers serious injuries or worse from flying debris.
