The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Mid North Coast.
It’s likely to produce destructive wind, large hailstones and very heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next few hours.
The State Emergency Service says people should move their cars under cover or away from trees, secure loose items around the house, yard and balcony, and never walk or drive through flood water.
