BEEF PRICES HIT AN ALL TIME HIGH AS CATTLE SALES RESUME

Beef prices have hit an all time high, with carcasses selling for an average $6 a kilogram across Australia earlier this week.

But cattle sales in centres like Grafton started slightly down in price and numbers this year.

60 cents shy of the last sale last year, light calves were fetching $3.40 a kilo on Tuesday.

Stock and station agents say it could take a few weeks before the market finds a balance.

Herd numbers are still relatively low, but with forecasts of more rain on the way, it’s thought some producers are likely to restock in the near future.
