TRAINER DARREN SMITH TO FACE LENGTHY BAN

Williamtown-based trainer Darren Smith is facing a lengthy ban from racing, after being found guilty of 42 charges, relating to the detection of excessive levels of cobalt in his horses between February and May last year.

Racing New South Wales stewards will hand down their penalty on March 20, with the Group One winning trainer facing a minimum three year disqualification.

Smith has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation and is likely to appeal any ban which is handed down.
