26 PEOPLE HOSPITALISED AFTER CHICKEN PLANT SPILL
Dozens of people are en-route to three Hunter hospitals, following a chemical spill at a chicken plant in Beresfield.
The Steggles site, on Hawthorn Street, was evacuated just after 9am this morning after people reported breathing difficulties and nausea.
26 people were treated on scene, and all are now on their way to the Calvary Mater, Maitland and John Hunter Hospitals.
The origin and make up of the chemical is not known, but the leak is now understood to be isolated.
We’ll have more details as they come to hand.
