With the return of its memorable chime at 11am, Newcastle’s iconic clock tower has been reopened, after a $5-million restoration.
The tower has been under wraps for 18 months, while the clock mechanism and bell were restored and sandstone facade replaced.
The overhaul of the 58-metre structure was part of a broader restoration of City Hall.
Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes says the large-scale restoration will help reduce future maintenance costs.
