Ausgrid management has revealed the locations of 553 job cuts.
82 jobs will go in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, while 32 will be axed on the Central Coast – the rest will come from Sydney.
The company has also confirmed a further phase of 500 job cuts will take place later this year.
The Electrical Trade Union and United Services Union, which represent Ausgrid workers, say the full scale of the cuts will mean that in just six months a quarter of the company’s workforce will have been terminated.
United Services Union Energy Manager Scott McNamara says it could mean slower response times in emergencies and poor maintenance.
