The Fair Work Ombudsman has commenced audits, targeting around 200 businesses across the region.
They come as a result of the area being ranked fifth in the country with regard to requests for action from workers aged over 55.
Businesses found to be in breach of the requirements will need to ensure all issues are rectified, or else they could face on the spot fines and legal action.
A range of local industries will be targeted, including agriculture, retail and food services
