COFFS RUNNER RETURNS WITH AN NZ WIN

Coffs Harbour runner, Leah Fitzgerald is enjoying a boost of confidence in the lead up to the Gold Coast Marathon.

The 33 year old recently returned home from the Hawke’s Bay Marathon in New Zealand, securing her second international win in a time of 3 hours and 44 seconds.

The victory over a field of almost 800 mixed competitors didn’t come easy though.

The athlete was diagnosed with a case of Deep Vein Thrombosis, just weeks before her departure.

“A week out from flying to New Zealand, I found out off the vein specialist that everything was clear and that I was right to run.”

Fitzgerald has also qualified for the premier New York Marathon, which will be held in November.
