YOUTHIE MARKS NATIONAL SORRY DAY
A ‘Sea of Hands’ display has been created at the Tamworth Youthie to mark National Sorry Day.
The day recognises past injustices and promotes reconciliation among Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
Today the focus was on the younger generation, who took part in a smoking ceremony and sing-a-long with local legend Buddy Knox.
“Aboriginal people here in Tamworth and right across the region have always been a strong, proud people, we have a strong culture and it exists today through language, stories, songs, dance and personal connection.”
“It shows that hands of all of us coming together and working together and our Aboriginal word here and right across the country almost share the same word for ‘hand’, which is ‘mara’.”
