COUNCIL TO PURCHASE $24,000 IN GROUNDWATER TO BOLSTER SUPPLIES

Tamworth Regional Council will buy and extract approximately 240 megalitres of ground water, to bolster the city’s supply heading into summer.

It’s understood the $24,000 purchase will allow a further 40 days of water extraction to take place at the Scott Road drift wells, preserving the Chaffey Dam supply.

“That helps, long term. It’s a risk mitigation type endeavour, I guess.”

Council is discussing the possibility of extracting more water from the wells on a permanent basis.
