UNE CONCERNED METRO UNI’S WILL POACH STUDENTS

The Federal Government’s decision to deregulate fees has concerned regional universities, but that’s not the only change to worry about, according to UNE Vice Chancellor Annabelle Duncan.
The adjustment of interest rate payments is another.
“Students could end up with an enormous debt and a debt that continues to accumulate even if they take time off for maternity leave, time off for extra study, whatever they’re doing that debt will accumulate.”
Commonwealth scholarships to attend metropolitan universities could also deter students from studying in regional areas like the New England.
“Because we will not put our fees up to the same extent our fees will be much lower because we want to encourage participation, we won’t have the large fighting fund.”
