  • French President Francois Hollande has described the latest shocking attack in his country as “a vile terrorist act.” An elderly Catholic priest was executed by two Islamic State sympathisers, while delivering mass. It’s emerged that one of the men involved had tried twice to travel to Syria to fight with extremists and French authorities had tried to keep him in custody but their appeal was rejected by the courts.
  • A man is under police guard in hospital, after a dramatic crash on the Gold Coast. Police say the 30-year-old was driving a stolen car when it collided with another vehicle in Southport. Police say he was carrying a loaded gun and drugs.
  • Amid wild applause, Hillary Clinton has become the first American woman to be nominated by a major party, to run for US President.
  • The tall ship Tenacious has made a grand entrance into Sydney Harbour. The British ‘Jubilee Sailing Trust’ vessel made it’s journey alongside two other ships – heading for the city’s Maritime Museum. Over the next few months it will be used to train both “able bodied” and disabled volunteers during short trips around Australia.
  • Sea World has captured some beautiful underwater video of young migaloo as he and a his mate passed by the Gold Coast on their way north.
  • Our cricketers have asserted their dominance over Sri Lanka on Day 1 of the first Test in Kandy, trailing by just 51 runs at stumps. Australia dismissed the home side for just 117.
  • Sally Fitzgibbons and Steph Gilmore have survived their sudden death heats to progress to Round 3 of the US Open of Surfing.
  • And Roger Federer has joined the growing list of big name players to pull out of the Olympics. The Swiss star will miss Rio, and the rest of the Tennis season, with a knee injury.
