- Australian veterans will now be able to visit the site of the Vietnam War Battle of Long Tan, after a deal was brokered by the Prime Minister overnight. The commemoration ceremony to mark today’s 50th anniversary – remains cancelled.
- To Rio, and Usain Bolt has stolen the show on the athletics track, in a heart-stopping semi-final of the 200-metres.
- The New South Wales government has released the designs for new double decker trains to be rolled out between Newcastle and the Central Coast. A $2.3 billion contract was signed today, the new carriages will be built in South Korea.
- And the world’s biggest aircraft has taken to the skies for the first time. The Airlander is a cross between a blimp, a helicopter and a plane and is a staggering 92-metres long. Nicknamed the “flying bum”, the aircraft is filled with helium and can stay in the air for up to two weeks.
